About the Educator
Rachael Balcom
Mrs. Balcom graduated with a degree in Music Education from Corban University in Salem, Oregon. She was interested in music from the beginning of her schooling. As a 5th grade beginning band student, she started playing the flute. In high school, she added the oboe, bassoon, tenor saxophone, and percussion to her list of instruments. She enjoyed playing in ensembles such as concert band, pep band, marching band, jazz band, choir, symphony orchestra, and more. Mrs. Balcom is currently pursuing her Master's of Music Education with the University of Florida.
This is her fifth year teaching and fifth year teaching in CCSD. Her favorite part of teaching is the students. She teaches K-12, so there is a lot of variety and interests among the students. She also loves to coach the drum line, which plays and performs for the Panthers basketball teams.
Mrs. Balcom would love to connect with anyone interested in knowing more about what music programs do for students in school systems. She is a strong advocate for keeping the arts in schools.
